Christopher J. Walker, III
Chris Walker's practice areas include Georgia insurance defense, Georgia personal injury law, auto accidents, and wrongful death law, real estate law, fire and casualty insurance defense, probate, and general civil litigation. Chris graduated magna cum laude from Mercer University in 1977, where he majored in Business Administration. He went on to get his Juris Doctor degree in law from Mercer's Walter F. George School of Law. Following law school he clerked for Superior Court Judge Walter C. McMillan where he developed an interest in litigation. Beginning in 1981 he served as assistant district attorney to the legendary Jeff C. Wayne who was notorious for giving his assistants dozens of cases on the Friday after Grand Jury to have ready for trial the following Monday. It was here that Chris developed his trial skills and went on to be appointed Chief Assistant District Attorney for the Northeastern Judicial Circuit.
In 1983, Chris began his private practice of law in Gainesville initially with Sartain & Carey law firm, and was later a partner with Carey Jarrard & Walker LLP, prior to its merger with Whelchel and Dunlap LLP. He has handled a wide variety of matters including insurance, personal injury, wrongful death, fire and casualty claims, real estate, probate, divorce and general civil litigation. His broad-based background has made him uniquely qualified to handle matters which involve multiple legal issues across numerous legal fields.
He has developed a reputation as a detail oriented attorney who knows his cases and is a worthy opponent. He believes strongly in keeping in touch with clients and always returns phone calls, even into the night. Chris lives his cases and is known to sometimes get up in the middle of the night with new legal angles and do legal research online which he emails himself at the office. He believes there is no substitute for thorough research and preparation of his cases and he is willing to put in whatever time is necessary to accomplish this. However, he feels it is important to balance his long work hours with time for his family and exercise. Chris is hired by insurers to handle personal injury, wrongful death, and fire and casualty claims throughout the Northeast Georgia area. This experience gives him a unique advantage in representing individuals on their claims because he knows how to maximize the value of a claim in the eyes of an insurer to get the best settlement possible and has the experience to present your case to a jury if your case cannot be settled for a reasonable amount.
Chris is married to Kay Reese Walker and they have two sons, Kit and Reese. Biking, running, and woodworking are his favorite hobbies. In the Fall of 2002, at the age of 46, Chris completed the famed Six Gap 100 mile bicycle ride in the North Georgia mountains. The Walkers are members of the First United Methidist Church where Chris has served as a Trustee and as Chairman of the Church Council. He is a former board member and past chairman at Rehabilitation Industries of Northeast Georgia, and a former member of the board at Challenged Child,Inc..
